The inner-workings of my brain related to There Will Come Soft Rains

Seconds into reading this short story I immediately thought of the Disney movie “Smart House”. I think the movie even had a scene where one of the rooms had a wall, just like this story, and you could pick the scenery on it. I did some digging to see if the movie was recreated from this story, as it was written first. But, couldn’t find anything. ( I think we may have some kind of Disney scandal on our hands).

What I find so interesting is that people from the past thought that by 2026, we would have homes that completely control themselves. Sorry past humans, we’re doing our best here. But I do wear a computer on my wrist now, if that counts for anything.

Weirdly enough, I saw symbolism in the house. As the world around it began to crash and burn, it still worked just as it was made to cooking breakfast each morning, cleaning the house and lighting a cigar. We, as humans, are doing the same thing right now, and don’t seem to give ourselves enough grace. The world is, quite literally, crashing and burning around us and we don’t give ourselves credit for that!! We still make the pancakes!! We STILL do the work and that is something to celebrate.

Still don’t know how I feel about my walls singing me lullabies though. I’ll have to get back to you on that one..
